“Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.”
1. We Are Light, Not Darkness
The Word of God reminds us of who we are in Christ: we are light. We have been called to display God’s glory in our daily lives.
Halloween, although many see it as something “innocent” or “just for fun,” has roots in dark practices, paganism, occultism, and an exaltation of death and fear.
As children of God, we cannot celebrate what contradicts our identity in Christ.
1 Peter 2:9
“But you are a chosen generation… that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.”
2. Not Everything That Seems Harmless Builds Up
The enemy often disguises himself to deceive. The Bible makes this clear:
2 Corinthians 11:14
“And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light.”
Many costumes, games, movies, and Halloween activities promote fear, dark supernatural themes, witchcraft, and death.
As believers, our minds and hearts should be filled with life, peace, and truth—not fear, darkness, or superstition.
3. Let Us Fill Our Homes with Light
It’s not only about avoiding something, but about filling our lives with what glorifies God.
Instead of Halloween, we can:
- Gather as a family to pray and read the Word
- Teach our children who we are in Christ
- Spend time in worship
- Have a night of thanksgiving to God
It is not a night of fear, but another day to glorify Jesus.
4. Remember Christ’s Victory
Jesus defeated every work of darkness on the cross.
We do not live in fear, but neither do we engage with what comes from the enemy.
Colossians 2:15
“And having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.”
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for calling us out of darkness into Your marvelous light.
We ask for discernment to avoid participating in anything that does not please You.
May our homes be places of peace and truth.
Lead us to live each day reflecting Your light and Your love.
